Built for outside

Amenity spaces live outdoors all year

An outdoor bar front or a grill station at an apartment pool takes rain on its top, splash from wet decks, heat from the equipment and constant contact from guests and residents. Built like an interior partition and finished like a building wall, it cracks at the counter line, stains at the base and loses its finish around the grill cutout within a few seasons.

We build these elements for the conditions. Bases are concrete block or framed with cement board and the right fasteners, sitting on a slab with a way for water to drain. Countertops overhang with a drip edge, tops of walls are capped and sloped, and grill openings get heat-rated framing and clearances per the equipment maker. Stucco goes over lath with a weep at the base, and the finish is matched to the main building.

For restaurants we also build patio enclosure walls, planters and bar fronts; for apartment and condominium communities, cabanas, pool walls, outdoor kitchens and fire features. We coordinate with your plumber, electrician and gas contractor, who handle the utilities. Our restaurant and apartment pages show how we schedule around open businesses and residents.

Picking the right base for the space

Concrete block is the most durable base for an outdoor bar or grill station. It does not rot, it takes stucco directly, and it handles the heat around commercial grills. It is heavy, so it needs a slab or footing that can carry it, which matters on elevated amenity decks.

A framed base with cement board is lighter and easier to shape, which helps with curved bars, long runs and decks with weight limits. If the frame is combustible, grills must be installed with the insulated jacket or clearances their manufacturer requires, and we plan the openings around that from the start. Load limits on decks and podiums are confirmed by the owner’s engineer or design team.

For existing features, refinishing is often the simplest option when the base is sound. We check before we quote and tell you if a crack or stain points to a problem a new coat would only cover.

Our process

Building around guests and residents

We schedule around service hours and pool seasons, and around the licensed trades, so gas, plumbing and power rough-ins are in place before a base is closed up.

Plan & lay out

We review the plans, confirm equipment cut-outs and clearances, and mark where licensed trades need to bring utilities.

  • Equipment specs reviewed
  • Slab & drainage checked
  • Written, itemized scope

Build the base

Block is laid or the frame is built and sheathed in cement board, with openings framed for grills, refrigeration and doors.

  • Square, level base
  • Openings framed to spec
  • Work area fenced off

Stucco & finish

Base and finish coats are applied and cured, the bottom edge is detailed to shed water, and the color is matched to the building.

  • Coats cured properly
  • Drip edge at the slab
  • Color & texture matched

Outdoor spaces in Cumming

Patios, pools and lake-season crowds

From downtown patios to apartment pool decks to hospitality near Lake Lanier, outdoor space gets heavy use in Cumming from spring through fall.

New restaurants and mixed-use around downtown Cumming and Cumming City Center lean on patio seating, and apartment communities across Forsyth County compete on their amenity decks. Long warm seasons mean these spaces are used hard, and the window for repairs is short. We plan amenity work for the cooler months when we can, so the patio or pool area is ready when the season starts.

Grill stations

Heat-aware bases and finishes for shared grills at apartment and condo pool decks.

Patio walls and bars

Enclosure walls, planters and bar fronts for restaurant outdoor dining.

Off-season scheduling

Amenity work timed for slower months so spaces open on schedule.

Questions & answers

Outdoor amenity questions from Cumming

What restaurant operators and community managers in Cumming ask about stucco amenity work.

Can stucco be used next to a commercial grill?
Yes, when the base is built with non-combustible materials, the grill maker’s clearances are followed and the finish around the opening is detailed for heat. We review the equipment specifications before building.
Do you install the gas, plumbing or electrical?
No. Licensed trades handle utilities. We coordinate rough-in locations and sleeves with them and build the structure and finish around their work.
Do we need a permit for patio or amenity construction in Cumming?
New structures, gas appliances and electrical work commonly require permits, and the rules depend on whether the property is in the City of Cumming or unincorporated Forsyth County. Your contractor or our team can help describe the scope when you check with the city or county.
Can you work on a pool deck while the pool is open?
We prefer the off-season. When work has to happen during the season, we fence off the area, keep debris off the deck and schedule around pool hours.
Why do outdoor bar fronts and islands crack?
Usually because water gets in at the top and the base moves with the slab. Sloped caps, drip edges, proper lath and a slab that drains prevent most of it.
How are amenity projects priced?
By size, base construction, finishes, coordination with other trades and access. We send an itemized written quote after reviewing the space.
